Cherie Hearts has always been an active player in the community. It is the philosophy of our founders, Dr Yap and Mr Singh, to constantly give back to the community. Since the inception of Cherie Hearts in 2001, we have set aside one calendar month in every year to aid charities. Over the years, Cherie Hearts has adopted and worked closely with various charity organizations such as Metta Welfare and Children’s Cancer Foundation, raising funds for these charities through a variety of events and children’s performances.
We see it as an opportunity to give back to society and getting families involved directly. Charity is permeated through the ranks at Cherie Hearts including its branches. It is an ideal way to inculcate positive values of compassion and empathy to our children whilst getting their parents to be involved with them as in the case of MILK
MILK (Mainly I Love Kids)
In 2006, Cherie Hearts has chosen MILK as its adopted charity. We hope that through close partnership with MILK, we will be able to work for the better good of many disadvantaged children.
MILK grew out of the Hope Fund, which was initiated in 1993. Through various programmes and fund raising events, MILK works with and reaches out to disadvantaged children and their families. They aim to break the cycle that these children are otherwise destined to. All funds raised directly by MILK or their partners, such as Cherie Hearts, goes directly to the children from MILK and their families.
Through their medical programme, MILK reaches out to children suffering from treatable diseases such as thalassaemia, diabetes, epilepsy, turner’s syndrome and hormonal disorders. MILK extends their hand not only to the children, ensuring that they receive help and treatment, but also to the parents of these children, ensuring that they receive the necessary support in their times of need.
Early childhood education and a child’s formative years are extremely crucial to the development of a child. However, not all children are fortunate enough to be given a head start in their early years. MILK also provides educational support to children from families overwhelmed by financial or familial problems. Through their educational support, such children are given a chance and access to preschool education that would not otherwise be possible.
As providers of early childhood education ourselves, Cherie Hearts works closely with MILK by opening some doors to their disadvantaged children. Cherie Hearts sponsors up to two children from MILK in each of its centres. Preschool education for these children is sponsored in full. Furthermore, Cherie Hearts @ HarbourFront, our flagship branch, donates 1% of programme fees collected to MILK. This is also a practice of our training wing, Parent Teacher Child Learning School International, where 1% of all course fees are donated to MILK. In this way, we hope that we as early childhood educators, will be able to play an active role in the lives of disadvantaged children.
